Herne Hill Velodrome Reaches Crowdfunder Target in One Week

Herne Hill Velodrome announced today that it has reached its £75,000 Crowdfunder target in less than a week after its launch. The money is to go towards kitting out the brand new pavilion that is nearing completion on the 125 year old site.

To date £77,665 has been donated to the Big Finish campaign, but there is a ‘stretch target’ of  £100,000 so you can still donate if you want to. Rewards include stickers, limited edition caps, T-shirts, prints, cycling jerseys and coaching packages. Go to their crowdfunding page to donate.

Leak Reveals Sutton Cleared of Most Charges

British Cycling tied itself up in even more knots yesterday with the news that they have cleared Shane Sutton of eight out of the nine charges against him that resulted in him resigning as Technical Director of British Cycling back in April of this year. Only one of the complaints brought against him by Jess Varnish was upheld - that he used the term ‘bitches’, although we do not the context within which it was used.

Boardman Calls For Highway Code Change

Chris Boardman and British Cycling launched a campaign today to make a change to the Highway Code, calling for a ‘universal’ rule to give way when turning at a junction.

Boardman says that, “At the moment there are 14 different rules around how you navigate a corner. It’s the most hazardous thing any of us do, regardless of if you’re on a bike, in a car or a pedestrian; it’s the most dangerous place in the road. Two thirds of all accidents happen at or around junctions.”

Celebrities Suffer on L'Etape du Tour for TV

A new TV show that follows a group of celebrities train for and compete in the Etape du Tour will air its first episode on Monday 28th November at 7PM on Channel 5. Eight celebrities had three months to prepare for the challenge in which they raced against each other in two teams.

Markus Stitz Talks in Peebles and Clitheroe

In September we ran a feature on Markus Stitz who rode around the world on a single speed bike. The plucky little German who has adopted Scotland as his home, has announced that he is to start another tour, although this one involves public speaking rather than pedalling.
